Nick Andrews

Chairperson

Nick has lived in Hastings since he was 12 and received his education from the Grove Secondary School for Boys.

He is a retired design engineer. He began his career with an apprenticeship at Drallim in Bexhill. He later worked for Vacuum Generators for eight years, eventually becoming a Senior Designer. Nick later worked as a self-employed engineer for several years, offering his services to Applied Materials in Horsham and Ion-Tech in Teddington, London. He then worked at Kurt J Lesker for 14 years, starting as a Design/IT Manager and later becoming the Engineering Manager. He travelled extensively across the UK, Europe, and the US during his tenure, visiting the company’s European HQ in Hastings and its US headquarters in Pittsburgh.

Nick’s final ten years of employment were in the oil industry, where he was a Design Supervisor for Schlumberger in Tunbridge Wells. He travelled to Mexico and Texas on business several times, which he found extremely interesting and fulfilling.

Since his retirement, Nick has been actively engaged in local issues, including working towards the successful Anti-Alexandra Park Cycle Route, the Alternative Cycle Route, and, more recently, founding the HSAG.

Nick is married and has three adult children.

Maxine Green

Vice Chairperson & Secretary

Maxine Green has extensive business management experience in the healthcare industry. She was the commercial director of a global optical/pharmaceutical firm for almost 19 years.

In 2008, Maxine founded Positive Impact, a local business that employs a back-office team of seven people, along with UK-wide field sales and professional service consultants who work with NHS ophthalmologists, optometrists, and retail opticians. Additionally, she is a director and part-owner of Proven Track Record, a company that provides CPD educational events and webinars for specialist optometric practitioners.

Maxine has served two terms of office on the BCLA Council, where she was treasurer and a council member of the executive board. Recently, she became a member of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, one of the oldest optical bodies in the world, with a modern focus.

Maxine resides in Fairlight, where she moved from London in 1982 with her husband Frank, son, and daughter. Her children are now adults with thriving local businesses in Hastings.

She has been a patient of Hill Surgery (formerly Harold Road) for over forty years. Maxine is a keen gardener, cook, and a great supporter of MacMillan Cancer and RNLI.

Karen Purser

Disabilities Lead

Before her retirement, Karen worked as Company Secretary for her husband’s plant hire and construction equipment companies, handling all aspects of the accounts for both businesses. She has a strong background in administration and business management.

Karen and her husband, Michael, moved from Otford in Kent to Pett Level eight years ago.

She enjoys walking in and around Pett Level with her dog Meggie and practising yoga, pilates, aqua aerobics, as well as tai chi.

Anita Waters

Treasurer

Anita is a retired nurse with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors.

She enjoys working in social care and health education. Since retiring, Anita has volunteered on various health projects and social care initiatives.

Before lockdown, she was a member of the Hastings and St. Leonards Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising committee, and now she serves as HSAH Treasurer.

Anita is highly passionate about community engagement and empowering people to bring about positive changes, especially for older people, to ensure their voices are heard.

Paul Rodger

Press Officer & Legal

Paul Rodger is a designer and writer who has run his business since the late seventies.

He is now part of GoodCompany + Co., a design consultancy based in Hastings, dedicated to working with the many talented creatives in the area. Throughout his career, Paul has successfully co-founded both ad agencies and design consultancies, working for well-known companies such as the BBC, Lloyds TSB, 3M, Dulux, and BP, as well as various specialist businesses and start-ups.

He is both a creative designer and a writer. In 2018, Paul and his wife Rita became DFLs after downsizing from their home in East London, which they had converted from a derelict former pub.
